How to Set Up Google Analytics with Divi

Sep 4, 2021

In this article, we will walk through how to set up a new Google Analytics account, add your website, install tracking code, and add other users to help manage your account.

What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics is a tool to track your website visitors, behavior, goals, and much more by creating a property (your website), and installing code onto your website’s pages. Google Analytics tracks user behavior across all search engines, not just Google. This is a valuable tool to help you make decisions on your website design and marketing efforts.

The New Google Analytics

In October 2020, Google released a new version of analytics called Google Analytics 4 (GA4). With this release, the method of tracking has become more precise by collecting specific events on your website such as button clicks and cross-platform behavior (desktop, tablet, mobile, etc.). Although GA4 is a more advanced tool, it is still new and not as developed as the earlier version of Google Analytics: Universal Analytics. We will be setting up both properties and linking them together so you can take advantage of the features of GA4 alongside your main Universal Analytics property.

Step #5 – Adding the tracking code to your website

If you are working with Never Gravity on a development site, send this code directly to us and we will add it when we launch your new website.

If you have an existing Divi website, follow the instructions below:

  • In the WordPress Admin sidebar, select Divi >Theme Options
  • Click on the Integration Tab
  • Scroll down to Add code to the <body> and paste your tracking code there
  • Click Save

Step #6 – Bonus! Add a User to your Analytics Account

If you need to add another user to your account for collaboration, follow these steps:

  • Go to Admin (in the bottom left) and click Account Access Management in the Account column
  • Click on the blue “+” icon in the top-right and choose Add Users
  • Enter the user’s email address and choose the permissions you want them to have (select the top 3 options of you are collaborating with another Analytics manager)
  • Click Add in the top-right
  • A notification will be sent to the user to login and access the account

After completing these steps, you will now be collecting information on how your website visitors are interacting with your site. Returning to your analytics Dashboard and selecting your UA- property will give you a ton of useful information about your website visitors. We will cover how to use Analytics in a future post.

Happy tracking!
